Its SUMMER!

So whats been going on?

We got some Mountain Bikes! ( this has been on the list since last summer.) These ended up being a great deal, this years model of the bike was about $599.99, and we rode them and really liked them, but didn’t want to spend quite that much. The bike shop said they had some of last years model still in boxes in the back and that they were supposed to build them and put them on sale that day. So for about $175 each, we got last years model of the bike we both really liked. SCORE!

We went out to Circuit of Americas and rode bikes on the F1 Track!

6 days of camping in the pop up over 4th of July! This was really an amazing trip. It is the longest Leah and I have camped together and it was wonderful. The new camper was amazing, so good that I was able to sleep until noon almost every day. We splashed around in the springs, I rode the mountain bike around the property a few times a day. We read, painted played games and I cooked about 15 meals. The place was Krause Springs and I would suggest going there to camp anytime. It was a very well taken care of camp ground.

Work moved from 3 miles away from the house to 14 miles by car. Somehow this ends up only being 11 by bike! I am near a window again at work, so that is nice. It looks across the street to a small park with a fountain.

We have been exploring the area around the new work office. I have a decent 15 mile ride that is easy to do after work now, but am looking to extend it to about 20 miles. We did get caught in a heavy downpour and took shelter under some trees. It has been a blast to explore a new area and to ride on Hairy Man Road.

A few longer bike rides. By longer bike rides I mean in the 20-40 mile range. The El Diablo Poker Dash was a solid 100k, and it took some effort. I got 2 flats that day and it was only a feels like 105 at the end. My hand wasn’t great with a jack high and pair of 7’s.

We cleaned out the side yard to make room to put the pop up there. Thank goodness for bulk trash day. We had 10+ years of our own junk back there and some stuff from the people who lived at the house before us. But its all cleaned out and we moved the camper from the front driveway to the side yard. (apparently we can get fined for having it in the front drive way, but only if someone complains.)

Last weekend I went fishing with my dad at Winkler Park in Temple, and I caught 2 fish. It was really nice to just get to sit and fish and talk to my dad for 4 hours. It has been since 2001 since we got to spend quality time fishing like that.

We are getting the home office picked up a little more. It is a big project. A few years ago it was almost completely done, but then it somehow get turned into a junk/box room again. Its getting there as you can see by the picture here.

The guest room is getting re organized as a result of moving a book shelf from the office. The work out room is also getting re organized due to moving the book shelf from the office to the front room, to make room for the sewing stuff to go in the office. No picture, but just saying, if you try to organize 1 thing in a house your SO is guaranteed to make it a whole house organization by the end of it.

The shed was built yesterday and will soon be painted. We will be moving all the camping stuff into the shed + some bikes this weekend. We purchased it about 7 weeks ago, and it has felt like an eternity to get it here and built.

Up next:

  • Jacks Generic sprint tri, in town.
  • Hotter than Hell 100, 2 nights pop up camping.
  • Pop up at the beach for family vacation, 2 nights pop up camping.
  • Kerrville sprint tri, 2 nights pop up camping.
  • Livestrong 100 mile ride, in town.

That might work to catch people up. No A races until Jan ’18, so everything in the list is just for fun.

What fun crazy things have you been up to?

April Showers and what not.

2016-04-20 19.03.01

Its been raining off and on for about 2 weeks, and more is on the way. I love the rain, but it was starting to get in the way of getting good outdoor time in. At least this last weekend it stayed nicer. But lets do a quick recap of activities.

The week of April 11 to 17.

  • Monday – Wednesday just walks around the Domain
  • Thursday was Gym Weights.
  • Friday was a bike for about a mile around the house.
  • Went to Lake PF for a little BikeRun-Brick! Then went fishing while Quix had a baby shower to go to.

The week of April 18 to 24

  • Monday and Tuesday were more walking at the Domain.
  • Wednesday we snuck in a small weights session then stand up paddle boarding at the gym.
  • Thursday we went on a nice 10 mile ride on shoal creek.
  • Friday we did the BSS Tri Team open water swim practice at the gym and some weights.
  • Saturday was a reverse Brick at Lake PF. Run then Bike. With quick dips in the water in between and after.

Now for the longer version.

Our little brick on the 16th out at Lake PF was a great dipping of the toe back into triathlon. Off season isn’t stopping, and we are still focused on #ProjectRaceWeight , but we also were missing going out to the lake and Quix wants more bike time to work on skills. We got out to lake PF and Team Red White and Blue are there putting on their own Triathlon. It was going to start at 11, and we got there about 10:30. It was fun to see a really small tri going on. Probably no more than 50 contestants. I hope I can find a nice small race like that some time in the next few years.

We took off on our bike ride and it was a little windy and a little wet, but not so much that we were going to stop. We did a nice little 5 miles out and back for a total of 10 miles.

We got back and started our run just in time to see the little triathlon start. They were running a little behind, but that was great since it let us get off the course before they started. We ran half a mile out, then stopped to take some pictures, then half a mile back. Overall just a nice run with a little rain and some wind.

Later that day once Quix went to a baby shower I went to the pond we found a few weeks ago that’s close to the house. It decided to start raining just about the time I cast my line out. It rained almost non stop for the hour I was there. By the time I left all I wanted to do was get warm.

We had a great bike ride that next Thursday. We were practicing starting and stopping skills at all the stop signs and lights. I might have picked a route where i knew we would get more stops for practice. I only accidentally left Quix at a crossing once.

Friday after work we met up with the BSS Tri team people, well to be honest there was Quix and I and 2 other people I didn’t know. Matt had said he was going to come but after a few minutes of waiting the other people got anxious to get going and took off. We then waited a little longer then jumped in after they got about a 1/3rd around the lake. Matt did end up showing up and I felt bad that he was swimming on his own. But that guy can swim like a fish now. I wish I was dedicated enough to go take masters classes like him, but getting up that early I think would kill me.2016-04-23 01.13.46

On to Saturday we went out to lake PF again, because LAKE! Instead of doing a normal brick, we did a reverse brick, run first then bike. I had a different easy pace than Quix had, so we ended up running opposite directions around the lake. Once we passed each other at the half way point I decided to pick up the pace past easy. I guess my new Rocket Science singlet gave me some rocket power.

Then on the bike ride I had a GoPro camera on each bike mounted on the areo bars. That way we could both get shots of each other for the blog headers. I think we found some good ones.

After the lake we had lunch at Panera, then best buy to get Quix a game, then to Babys-R-Us to pick up some diapers for me to take to a daddy diaper party. ( Like a baby shower for the dad I guess.)

Went to the Daddy Diaper Party, got to talk to friends, drink some Miller light out of a keg in a trash can ( always a fun) Then went home and we watched the new Star wars movie.

Sunday was up about noon, putz around and do some cleaning. Then we took a long walk, went fishing and then another long walk. As strange as it seems I think I am honestly more active right now in the number of walks I get than when I was training hard. Just because when I wasn’t training I was trying not to move. Now I try to go the long way every time I go some where just to get more walking in. (So I have more calories to deal with.)

So with all the rain, I wanted to make a pro and con list.

Pros:

  • It’s going to be green
  • Lots of flowers
  • Not so bright or hot
  • Free car wash
  • Easy to fall asleep to
  • Don’t have to pay for watering the yard
  • Hoodies

Cons:

  • Hard to get up
  • Allergies can get bad
  • Wet and cold
  • Bikes get gross
  • Stepping in that puddle that always forms at the front door at work
  • People that get scared and drive 30 miles under the speed limit if its sprinkling
  • Possibility of Hail.

2 years ago we were in quite a drought. The lake was so low that people that used to have water front property might have over a quarter of a mile to get to the water then. Thankfully in the last 2 years all this rain has raised the lake level and its so full they are going to let some down stream. That is fantastic news for the races that will happen down town later this year. If they can let more water into town lake and out of it, maybe it wont smell and taste so bad. Maybe it will even wash some of the growth down river.

Well I guess that is it for the last 2 weeks. Depending on how eventful this week is there might be another one. I would like to start looking at tri bikes soon. I might make a post about my feelings about that.
